Florence – The long day

I was up early today, 6:30 to be out of the apartment before dawn. I gathered my camera gear and headed up to the train station in hopes of getting a cab to take me to Piazza Michelangelo. There were a number of cabs at the train station and at this time of the morning and the traffic through Florence was very light. 9 euros later I was at Piazza Michelangelo. Just after 7 am and the sun was not […]

Florence first full day

Today, Vance was almost killed by an egg. Well not really, but the soft boiled egg was not quite cooked enough and it was cooked (open) in the microwave. When Vance went to eat it it exploded and sprayed egg allover the kitchen. I kind of wish we had a video camera going, Vance must have jumped 2 feet in the air! After breakfast we headed out to our first tour of Florence. It was a 3 hour renaissance walking […]

Venice to Florence

Up early, breakfast and on to the train station to catch our train to Florence. The train ride was uneventful, smooth and pretty. Very different views as we came into the Tuscany region. Once we got to the Florence station we had to find out how to get to our apartment. As it turns out, it was all of 100 meters from the train station. It turns out this is a great location, close to everything. Less than an kilometre […]

Venice Day 4

Today we headed off to Saint Mark’s Basilica. We wanted to get there early as the line up can be very long. It opens at 9:45 so we wanted to be there just before then. Of all the good laid plans. We left the hotel in lots of time, but got side tracked because we had to go check out the fish market first. Then as we were crossing the Rialto bridge, Vangie and Cathy had an emergency case of […]

Venice Day 3 – Murano and Piazza San Marco

Today we headed off to Murano after we had our breakfast and a quick stop at the Vodafone store to get my internet stick fixed up. Murano is another of the small islands close to Venice. It is mostly known for it’s glass work and glass making. Although not a pretty as Burano, Murano does have glass, lots and lots of glass. And if you like glass and are interested in glass stuff, then this is the place to be. […]
